How-To Maintain your Leak Detector
If the LED is found to not flash when moisture is applied to the copper sensor lines, the button cell battery is probably flat. Try a new button cell. Also check that the Copper Sensor Lines are clean and free of corrosion or oxide build-up. (see Copper Sensor Lines - below)
A new Button Cell is provided with each Underwater Camera Housing Leak Detector, this should last for approximately one year, even when it is left in the Leak Detector. But always test the Leak Detector before using it after storing for more than a week without use. If the LED is not as bright as when it was new, then replace the battery.
Only fit a 3 Volt Button Cell (CR2016, CR2025 or CR2032*) to your Leak Detector, other size/voltage batteries will either not work, or damage the Leak Detector electronic components. The only difference between the three types of battery above is their long-term capacity.
* Note: The CR2016 has the shortest life, the CR2025 has medium life expectancy, while the CR2032 has the longest life expectancy.
The copper sensor lines on the Underwater Camera Housing Leak Detector are designed to be at the lowest part of your housing and facing the bottom of the housing, so that any moisture/water will touch the copper lines. This is what starts the Leak Detector flashing, warning you of a problem.
The opposite side of the copper sensor lines has a sticker (UWleakdetector.com) on it, this sticker should be facing upwards in the housing.
Every six months the copper sensor lines should be polished gently with ‘Brasso’ or a similar product used for polishing brass/copper objects - applied with a soft cloth. This will keep the copper strips sensitive to moisture, by removing any oxides.
It is a good idea to install a ladies sanitary napkin (Slim-Line) at the lowest point of your camera housing to contain and absorb water in the event of a housing leak. This will help to stop water moving around the housing and perhaps ruining your camera and lens. If a sanitary napkin is utilised in the housing, the copper sensor lines on the Camera Housing Leak Detector should be installed under the sanitary napkin, but still with the copper lines facing downwards. If the room available in your housing under the camera is limited. You may need a 'Slim Line' style - ask the assistant at your local supermarket for help in selecting the style to best fit your housing!
