Underwater Leak Detector

Self maintenance of your Leak Detector

Before Each Dive

Fit a 3 Volt Button Cell (CR2025 or CR2023) into the Battery Holder with the Positive (+) side facing upwards. Test the circuit is working by touching a damp finger onto the copper lines; the LED should light yellow, and then begin flashing. Dry the copper lines and instal the Detector and Battery Holder in the housing.

Battery

If the Detector is found to not flash when moisture is applied to the copper sensor lines, the button cell battery is probably flat. Try a new button cell. Also check that the Copper Sensor Lines are clean and free of corrosion or oxide build-up.    (see Copper Sensor Lines - below)

A new Button Cell is provided with each Leak Detector, this should last for approximately one year of frequent diving, but only if the button cell is removed when the leak detector is not in use. If the button cell is left permanently in the battery holder, it may last for only a month or two.

Copper Sensor Lines

The copper lines are designed to be at the lowest part of the housing and facing the bottom of the housing, so that any moisture/water will touch the copper lines. The opposite side of the copper lines is marked TOP, this surface should be facing upwards in the housing.

Every six months the copper sensor lines should be polished with ‘Brasso’ or a similar product used for polishing brass objects - applied with a soft cloth. This will keep the copper strips sensitive to moisture, by removing any oxides.

Tip

It is a good idea to instal a ladies sanitary napkin (Slim-Line) at the lowest point of your camera housing to contain and absorb water in the event of a leak. This will help to stop water moving around the housing and perhaps ruining your camera and lens. If a sanitary napkin is utilised in the housing, the copper sensor lines should be installed under the sanitary napkin, but still with the copper lines facing downwards. If the room available in your housing under the camera is limited. You may need a 'Slim Line' style - ask the assistant at your local supermarket for help in selecting the style you need !

Support & Warranty

We take pride in offering complete customer support for our Leak Detector. We manufacture our own products and know best how to fix problems that may arise. There are, however, some limitations as to what we can do:

  • If you do have a problem with your Leak Detector, first send us the details via our Contact Us page.
  • We will advise by return e-mail, what you should do with your Leak Detector and what we will do to help rectify the problem.
  • We will repair or replace any Leak Detector within 12 months from the date of purchase if ;
  1. The electronic components have failed and the Leak Detector has never been submersed in water*.

  2. The Leak Detector is no longer sensing moisture and you have cleaned the copper strips and replaced the battery*.

* We will not repair or replace the Leak Detector at any point if the unit has been submersed in water during/after a housing flood. Although we have taken steps to prevent moisture affecting the electronic components; the battery holder, copper sensor strip and connecting wires will deteriorate after submersion in water. These parts are however easily replaceable by us, so the unit can be returned for fast turn-around repairs at minimal cost to the end-user.
